Manicurists

The care and nail art performed in beauty salons are exposed to various occupational hazards, but perhaps the most dangerous due to their invisibility and long-term harmful effects is exposure to chemical agents. For certain nail techniques such as nail polish or sculpting, it is necessary to use an ultraviolet lamp to dry the product.

A wide variety of cosmetics are used in manicures, all of which have complex formulations that may contain chemicals classified as hazardous to health and not always specified by the brands.

Cosmetics come in many forms, sometimes requiring the mixing of two or more products before application to the client’s nails. Cosmetics are applied directly with the hands or with the help of brushes, spatulas, sponges, and sprayers. During the process, workers can be exposed to hazardous chemical agents through inhalation of aerosols and volatile components that evaporate during application, especially if heat sources are used (such as infrared dryers for fixing color treatments).

Some of these hazardous chemical agents in cosmetic product formulas are:

  • Nail polish remover: acetone, acetonitrile, butyl acetate, isopropyl acetate, toluene, cyclomethicone, hydroquinone, etc.
  • Nail polish: ethyl acetate, butyl acetate, isopropyl alcohol, dibutyl phthalate (DBP), toluene, dichloromethane, etc.
  • Basecoat: methacrylic acid, methyl methacrylate (MMA), ethyl methacrylate (EMA), hydroquinone, etc.
  • Hardener/strengthener: methyl ethyl ketone (MEK), butyl acetate, ethyl acetate, isopropyl alcohol, camphor, etc.
  • Adhesive solvents: acetonitrile, ethyl acetate, isopropyl alcohol, isobutanol, methyl ethyl ketone (MEK), etc.
  • Cosmetic products may also contain aromatic amines, such as: CI 42090, CI 60725 (solvent violet 13), CI 60730 (solvent violet 43), and ethyl-4-(dimethylamino benzoate).

Adverse effects can occur on the skin in the form of dermatitis or irritations and allergies due to frequent contact; in the respiratory system, causing asthma, rhinitis, and other conditions; conjunctivitis, headaches, drowsiness, and dizziness.

Various protection measures and recommendations have been published by the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy, but we often see workers breathing in these emissions through the windows of these salons.

Now, in addition to these measures, there is a new method that effectively and quickly neutralizes these toxic substances. PUROH is a device that guarantees the elimination of these harmful substances through the emission of the Air-Free Factor, which mineralizes these Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) in four phases and converts them into harmless residues such as oxygen, water, or soluble carbonates.

Moreover, it eliminates public contagion pathogens such as viruses or bacteria, including coronavirus, to protect employees and customers. The device is small, quiet, and has negligible energy consumption.

PUROH’s air purification technology is based on the generation of neutral OH radicals. It is the most effective and natural method, as it is commonly produced in the upper layers of the atmosphere in the natural process called Advanced Oxidation. PUROH dominates the generation of these radicals with an effective and harmless chain reaction. Unlike conventional ionizers, it does not damage the metals and electronics of professional materials specific to the industry, as it emits a neutral reaction.

Incorporating this technology has benefits for the health of your employees and clients, as well as for the image of your business. You can advertise a space free of pathogens and with clean and healthy air. Your clients and employees will notice an immediate improvement in the environment, breathing fresh and natural air. If you see fit, we can provide you with merchandising material that communicates these benefits to the public. We can also arrange a visit to your establishment to carry out a series of homologated measurements of toxic particles and COVs, before and after using PUROH.
