Hairdressers

The hairdressing industry is exposed to different occupational hazards, but perhaps one of the most dangerous due to its invisibility and long-term harmful effects is exposure to chemical agents. A wide variety of cosmetics with complex formulations are used in hairdressing, which can contain substances classified as hazardous to health and are not always specified by the brands.

Cosmetics are presented in many forms, and in some cases, it is necessary to mix two or more products before applying them to the client’s hair. Cosmetics are applied directly with hands or with the help of brushes, spatulas, sponges, and spray vaporizers. During the process, workers may be exposed to hazardous chemical agents by inhalation of aerosols and volatile components that evaporate during application, especially when heat sources are required (for example, infrared dryers for fixing color treatments).

Some of the hazardous chemical agents in the formulas of cosmetic products are:

  • Ammonium persulfate: accelerator of products for discoloration.
  • Potassium persulfate: antioxidant and sometimes also an accelerator of discoloration.
  • Ammonia: component of oxidizing coloring products.
  • P-phenylenediamine, p-toluenediamine, 4-aminophenol: hair dyes.
  • Resorcinol: color modifier, component of hair dyes.
  • Tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol: hair dye solvent.
  • Ammonium thioglycolate, glyceryl monothioglycolate: reducers for wave changes.
  • Cosmetic products can also incorporate solvents such as acetone, ethanol, methanol, and xylene, among others.
  • In addition, due to the use of spray products, there may be exposure to propellants such as butane, ethane, and propane.

The effects can occur on the skin in the form of dermatitis or irritations and allergies due to frequent contact, in the respiratory system, producing asthma, rhinitis, respiratory sensitization, and other conditions, conjunctivitis, headaches, drowsiness, and dizziness. Some compounds such as toluene can cause damage to the fetus or child during natural lactation.

There are different protection measures and recommendations published by the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy.

To alleviate these risks, there is now a new method that effectively and quickly neutralizes these toxic substances. PUROH is a device with a technology that eliminates these harmful substances through the emission of the Factor de Aire-Libre, which mineralizes these Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) in four phases and converts them into harmless residues such as oxygen, water, or soluble carbonates.

It also eliminates pathogens typical of public infections such as viruses or bacteria, including the coronavirus, for the protection of employees and customers. The device is small, not noisy, and has negligible energy consumption.

PUROH’s air purification technology is based on the generation of neutral OH radicals. It is the most effective and natural as it is produced regularly in the upper layers of the atmosphere in the natural process called Advanced Oxidation. PUROH controls the generation of these radicals through an effective and harmless chain reaction. Unlike conventional ionizers, it does not cause oxidation damage to the metals and professional materials used in the sector’s equipment since it emits a neutral reaction that does not cause corrosion.

Incorporating this technology has benefits for the health of employees and customers, as well as for the business’s image. You can advertise a space free of pathogens and with clean and healthy air. Your customers will immediately notice the improved environment and breathe fresh and natural air. If you wish, we can provide you with merchandising material that communicates these benefits to the public

If you are interested, we can arrange a visit to your establishment to carry out a series of certified measurements of toxic particles and VOCs, before and after using PUROH.
