Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) are emitted as gases from certain solids or liquids. VOCs include a variety of chemicals, some of which can have adverse effects on health in the short and long term. VOC concentrations are higher indoors (up to ten times higher) than outdoors. They are emitted by a wide range of widely used household products. Examples include cleaning products, cosmetics, insecticides, paints and lacquers, strippers, solvents, fuels, construction materials and furniture, office equipment such as copiers and printers, correction fluid, and carbonless copy paper, graphics and crafting materials such as glues and adhesives, etc.
All these products are made up of organic chemicals that emit volatile compounds.
